Story summary
Wen Sui has ridden the last bus with Gu Ze for weeks on end, and only on the night she prepares to confess does she learn he is about to switch shifts—the familiar stretch of riding side by side is about to end. She does not dress up her anxiety over losing these chance encounters as a lifelong promise, but instead plainly proposes having a meal together next week. After Gu Ze agrees, he also explains that he is slow to warm up; the two exchange contact information and get off at different stops, leaving the relationship a new starting point that will need to be actively tended.
