Story summary
The bookstore leaks again after the rain, forcing Cheng Ning to choose between renewing the lease at the original site and moving to a shopping mall; photographs of the old street brought by photographer Mo Yuan make the decision even harder. Rather than merely looking at the bustle in the pictures, she calculates the costs of repairs, rent, and accessibility for regular customers. Ultimately, the bookstore moves into a nearby, smaller storefront while photographs of the old shop are kept as a record; staying and leaving are no longer mutually exclusive, and she preserves viable operational space for the business.
