Story summary
After equipment upgrades at the old-town cinema, Wen Qing keeps feeling that a familiar sound is missing from the end of the films; an inspection by Xu Zhou reveals that it was the mechanical residue sound when the old projector shut down. She originally wanted to add the sound back to every screening, but he points out that this would alter the work itself. Instead, the two set up a brief audition area in the lobby accompanied by equipment notes; audiences can hear echoes of the cinema's past, while the screening hall continues to run with the films' original audio.
