Story summary
Chen Ning and Wen Zhou agree to return to the café one year later to open the goals they each wrote down; when the date arrives, the plans in neither letter have unfolded as originally intended. She changed careers, he closed a branch, and what initially seemed like failure instead led to more suitable everyday lives. Stowing away the old letters, the two write down on fresh paper only one small thing they are willing to try next, no longer asking a promise to provide answers in advance for who they will be a year later.
