Story summary
Sitting on a seaside bench, Ning Wei and Song Xing discuss where they will live in the future: one cannot leave a coastal job, while the other has just established a career in an inland city, and neither is willing to make a rash compromise. They each write down what they can adjust and what they cannot bear over the course of a year, finding that living together is temporarily unfeasible. The two decide to maintain their separate lives and trial regular visits, also agreeing to reopen discussions if the imbalance persists, rather than regarding persistence alone as the only answer.
