Story summary
An Qing and Mo Zhou agreed to proofread the old maps in the post-rain bookstore page by page, but upon reaching a vanished alley, two interviewees gave contradictory locations. She originally wanted to choose the more moving account, while he suggested noting the discrepancy first. The two continued consulting reliable records and temporarily retained both oral accounts and their sources. Though progress on their promise slowed as a result, it let readers know which streets had already been verified and which still awaited answers.
