Give Back What I Gave You

Xie Wanzhao, Imperial Tutor of Great Zhou, loathed the strife at court. For him, she shed her splendid robes and married down into a humble family. She helped him place his name on the golden list and supported him until he passed the examinations. He said: In this life, I will not fail you. Once he came to power, in order to attach himself to the princess, he reduced her to a mad slave. He let others humiliate her, standing by with a cold eye. Her heart died. She was not crying, not making a scene, but in silence—she put the Imperial Tutor's splendid robes back on. At the grand ceremony in her honor, the officials of the court came to offer their congratulations. Before them all, she stripped him of his degree and rank and took back his family property. "What I bestowed on you, now—return it to me."
