Story summary
Xu Ning and Gu Zhou are used to saying goodnight when getting off the last bus; one evening, downcast, she does not respond, but he does not pry, simply returning the borrowed umbrella as agreed. The next day, she explains on her own that she had simply needed quiet that evening, not wanting to feel pressured to explain her work fatigue. After Gu Zhou understands, both keep their brief greetings while allowing silence to exist; this ordinary companionship no longer relies on acting carefree every day to continue.
