### Chapter 1: The Night The Moon Broke

🌕 The True Luna: Reborn
Chapter One
"The Night the Moon Broke"
(Arielle's POV)
The scent of lavender drifted through my room as the soft light of dawn painted the walls pale gold. I blinked awake slowly, curling into myself for a moment, not quite ready to face the day.
Something felt... off. Or maybe not off — just different.
I sat up and stretched, my curls tumbling down my shoulders. A soft ache lingered in my chest, but I couldn't place why.
As I stood, my gaze landed on the photo on my dresser — Mama's warm brown eyes smiled back at me through the frame. She looked so alive in that picture, like she might step out of it at any moment.
I pressed two fingers to the glass.
"Morning, Mama."
Sliding my sketchbook aside, I slipped into my hoodie and padded barefoot downstairs.
The kitchen smelled like black coffee and fried eggs — my dad's usual morning routine. He stood at the stove, wearing that faded gray sweater he always did when the mornings were cold. His back was straight, movements quiet, almost meditative.
"Morning, Dad," I said as I grabbed a glass of water.
"You're up early," he replied, glancing at me with a small smile. "Something on your mind?"
I hesitated, then shrugged. "Just... thinking I'll go for a walk later. Clear my head."
His hand paused over the frying pan.
"Arielle," he said carefully, "be careful, okay?"
I blinked. "Why?"
He turned to face me, his expression serious now. "Andre Moore arrived last night. The elders are putting him through final training. You know what he's like."
I stiffened.
"He doesn't like humans... or hybrids. And especially not..."
He didn't finish. He didn't need to.
Especially not me — the girl with no wolf.
"I'll stay out of his way," I said quickly.
Dad gave a slow nod but didn't press further. I was grateful for that.

Later That Evening
The forest was quiet — peaceful in the way I needed it to be. The trees didn't ask questions. The wind didn't care that I hadn't shifted. The moon, even half-hidden behind clouds, still felt like home.
I walked toward the river bend, breathing in the cool pine air.
And that's when I saw him.
Tall. Broad-shouldered. Golden-blonde hair catching the last streaks of sunlight. His green eyes glinted as he stood by the water, looking like he belonged to some ancient painting.
Andre Moore.
The future Alpha.
And completely out of place.
"You're not lost, are you?" I called, arms folded.
He turned slowly, eyes locking on mine. My breath hitched.
Then he smiled. Confident. Relaxed.
"I'm Andre. And you must be Arielle Moon."
I blinked. "The Andre? The future Alpha?"
"The one and only," he said.
I narrowed my eyes. "How do you know my name?"
He smirked. "Perks of being the future Alpha. I make it my business to know everyone in the pack."
We talked.
To my surprise... he wasn't awful. He asked about my art. Listened when I spoke. His eyes softened when I laughed. For the first time in a long time, I didn't feel like the broken girl without a wolf.
Then everything changed.
"You're my mate," he said suddenly, voice hushed — almost reverent.
I froze. "What?"
"I felt it," he whispered. "The moment I saw you. The bond... it's real."
Tears stung my eyes. I hadn't shifted. No wolf. No mark. And yet... the goddess had still chosen me?
I looked up at the moon, hope swelling in my chest.
Until his expression twisted.
"I can't do this," he muttered, stepping back.
I blinked. "What?"
"You're half-human. You don't even have a wolf. How could the goddess pair me with you?"
My stomach dropped. "Andre, please—"
He snapped, "You're not worthy of being my mate."
I stumbled a step back.
> "Arielle Moon of the Blood Moon Pack," he said, voice tightening, "I reject you as my mate."
The words shattered something inside me. I stared at him in disbelief — at the man I thought might be different.
"I... I don't understand," I whispered.
"You're nineteen. Still wolfless. You're incomplete."
"So you think I'm broken?"
He looked away. "This isn't personal."
But it was. It was everything.
Then his power flared — his aura slamming into me like a wall of fire. My knees buckled. The command in his voice rang like a bell in my bones.
> "I, Andre Moore, Future Alpha of the Blood Moon Pack, reject you, Arielle Moon, as my mate and Luna of this pack."
Pain seared through me — sharp and soul-deep. My body trembled under the weight of his Alpha tone.
> "Accept it," he growled. "I command you... as your future Alpha."
I gasped.
He wasn't just rejecting me. He was forcing me to accept it.
I'd believed the mate bond was sacred — forged by the Moon Goddess herself.
Now it was being broken by pride and cruelty.
My throat burned. My heart screamed.
But the Alpha tone coiled around me like barbed wire. I couldn't fight it.
I met his gaze, voice cracking as I spoke the words he demanded.
> "I... I, Arielle Moon... daughter of Noah Moon... accept your rejection."
Tears fell, but I kept my chin lifted.
> "And I reject you, Andre Moore, as my mate."
The bond snapped.
The silence that followed was worse than any scream.
He turned his back on me, already walking away.
And I stood there, in the darkening woods, shaking — not just with pain, but with the promise that I would never let anyone break me again.

The Next Morning
The envelope waited on my nightstand like a lifeline.
My hands shook as I opened it.
> Dear Miss Moon,
We are pleased to offer you full admission to the New York College of the Arts, following your outstanding portfolio and scholarship application...
I couldn't breathe.
I did it.
I didn't need a wolf. I didn't need a mate.
I was going to New York.
---
Dad was in the kitchen, sipping tea when I walked in. His eyes flicked up, already reading my expression.
"I got in," I said, smiling — really smiling.
"To the art college?"
I nodded, holding the letter to my chest.
He set his cup down and walked over to pull me into a warm, quiet hug.
"I'm proud of you, Arielle. You've earned this."
"I want to leave today," I whispered. "Is that okay?"
He nodded. He didn't ask why. He didn't mention Andre.
Maybe he knew not to ask. Or maybe he just trusted me.

That Evening
Chase helped me pack. Lina waited with baby Kiara on her hip.
"You sure you're ready?" he asked, shoving my suitcase into the trunk.
"No," I whispered, "but I'm going anyway."
He hugged me tight. "You're gonna crush it out there."
I kissed Kiara's cheek, and she squealed, tiny hands pulling my curls. Lina smiled and handed me a bag of snacks and a small sketchbook.
"For when your heart needs a place to land," she said gently.
Finally, Dad walked over and placed a silver pendant in my palm — a delicate crescent moon.
"It was your mother's," he said. "She wore it the day you were born."
I held it tight, tears stinging my eyes. "Thank you."
He hugged me one last time. "You're stronger than you know."
---
As the car pulled away from the only home I'd ever known, I stared out the window, wind in my hair and heart in pieces.
But somewhere beneath the pain... was fire.
> I will bury the past.
