I'll mostly be writing the scenes based on what I've seen myself so it might be different from what others may have seen.

I know that there are different traditions in different parts of India but in this story, I'm describing them as I have seen them take place in my family.

The story will have some Hindi words in between so I'll try to translate them in the chapter itself.

If in case you don't understand something in the story, then please feel free to ask.

~~~~~~
Priyanka Saxena is the niece of the respected accountant of a small town in Uttar Pradesh.
She had lost her parents Raghu and Payal at a young age and her Chacha Rajesh had taken care of her since.
Her Chachi Anu considered her to be a burden and constantly belittled her. She always told Priyanka that by taking her in, she had done her a huge favour.
Priyanka believed her aunt and always did as she was told.
Anu's daughter Ishika had grown up watching how her mother treated her cousin. Ishika didn't like it but she couldn't find the courage to call her mother out on it.
~~~~~~~

Priyanka loved to spend time with her uncle and helped him with his job. Rajesh was a father figure for her and he taught her all the values he had grown up with.

Rajesh never once stopped his niece from achieving her dreams and Priyanka was always grateful for that.

Working with her uncle got Priyanka interested in Math which was rather uncommon for a girl.

With her uncle's support, Priyanka was now doing her graduation in Math and hoped to do a post-graduation as well.

She had decided to work as well so that she didn't burden her family with the fees.

Her uncle didn't like it but his niece was extremely stubborn, so he had to give in.

~~~~~~~
Rajesh knew how his wife treated his niece, but he found himself just as helpless as his daughter in the situation.
He didn't like it but there wasn't anything he could do to make them stop.
Priyanka was too nice of a person to say no and his wife took advantage of that.
He didn't know that his wife made his niece think that she was a burden on their family.
Rajesh was also worried about the marriage of both his daughters.
Ishika was 24 years old and at the prime age for marriage whereas Priyanka was 22.
Ishika was done with her graduate studies while Priyanka was just completing her final year of undergrad study.
Rajesh knew that he would have to work on getting Priyanka married himself because his wife didn't care enough about her.
Anu had already started talking to some people about her own daughter's marriage.
The people of their community had known both the girls for years now and they all preferred Priyanka because of her gentle and respectful nature.
This angered Anu to no end because no one wanted Ishika as their daughter in law.
~~~~~~~

One day Samar Mehta, an old friend of Rajesh and his brother Raghu, came to meet them.

Raghu and Samar had been friends since they were younger and with time Rajesh also joined their little friend circle.

After Raghu's untimely death, Samar had done his best to help Rajesh with Priyanka and he also came to play with the young girl.

Samar loved Priyanka like his own daughter and enjoyed spending time with her.

Priyanka reminded him of his old friend and Samar loved her for that.

~~~~~~~
Samar knew that Rajesh's wife Anu didn't like Priyanka very much, so he tried to meet her every week.
Priyanka never complained about her aunt, but Samar knew that it bothered her.
Priyanka was the kind of person who would believe that it was her own fault that her aunt didn't like her.
The young girl would do everything her aunt would ask hoping that maybe she might finally approve of her.
~~~~~~~

Samar went to meet Rajesh in his little office.

Rajesh invited him to sit down while Anu brought out tea and some snacks for them.

Samar says, "So Rajesh I know that you're worried about your daughters' weddings and I think I can help you out with that. I have a nephew who is quite well settled and his parents are looking for a suitable wife for him. They just want to get him married quickly because he has been refusing for some time now. My nephew has rejected every girl that his parents tried to set him up with. He says that he doesn't want to be tied down but after I had a chat with him, he agreed to get married to whoever I select for him. If you don't mind, I can talk to his parents."

Rajesh thinks for a moment and replies, "I really appreciate this, but I'll have to talk to my wife about it first. If I'm not mistaken, she wants Ishika to be married first and besides, Priyanka wants to continue studying."

Samar says, "I would prefer Priyanka because she will be good for him as well. I promise that the family won't stop Priyanka from continuing her studies. You know that I love Priyanka like my own daughter, so I won't let her give up on her dreams."

Rajesh replies, "Thank you but you know that a father's worries are endless. I'll talk to Anu and let you know what we decide."

Samar shakes Rajesh's hand and takes his leave.

Anu enters the room and starts picking up the used cups.

Anu says, "Who is this nephew of his? I thought Samar didn't have any siblings. He isn't married either so how does he have a nephew?"

Rajesh knew that these questions were just to figure out if Ishika would be benefitted by this marriage. He knew that this nephew was not Samar's nephew by blood.

~~~~~~~
Samar had met the boy for the first time when the boy had been kidnapped.
The boy had been smart enough to escape before Samar found him and took him to his house. Samar had spent a few weeks with the boy until he had found his parents.
They had both taken a liking to each other and the young boy had asked to meet Samar again later. The boy's parents were grateful to Samar taking good care of their son after he had managed to escape so they always welcomed Samar to their house.
The two of them had grown close and the boy considered Samar as an uncle and Samar started calling him his nephew.
Rajesh knew that the boy's family was rich from everything he had heard about them from Samar and that information was enough for Anu to want this boy to be Ishika's husband.
His friend felt that Priyanka was right for his nephew and Rajesh trusted him, so he decided not to tell his wife much about the boy.
~~~~~~~

Rajesh replies, "I don't know much about the nephew myself. Samar first met the boy when he was lost and they both connected. The boy now refers to Samar as his uncle. Do you want Ishika to get married to him?"

Anu says, "Well if you don't know much about this boy then I don't think you should risk Ishika getting stuck with him. My daughter deserves the best husband who will take care of her every need. If Samar wants a girl for him just tell Priyanka to get married to him. She can at least accept the marriage for her uncle."

Rajesh smiled to himself because he had managed to successfully fool Anu.

He knew enough about the boy's nature to know that he would take good care of his beloved niece.

He decided to call Samar the next day and discuss more about the marriage. He had to talk to his niece about this first.

~~~~~~~
Priyanka arrived home from college and went to meet her uncle first.
She had found out about some good colleges where she could do her masters and she wanted to discuss this information with her uncle.
She knocked on the door of her uncle's office and entered after he called her in.
Priyanka says, "Chacha I found some good local colleges where I can do my masters. I talked to my teachers in college and they said that these colleges are really good."
Rajesh interrupts, "Priyanka beta I have some news for you. Today Samar came to talk to me about your marriage. You remember his nephew, right?"
Priyanka nods so Rajesh continues, "Well Samar thinks you are perfect for him. Before you ask, your Chachi also said that you should get married to him."
Priyanka thinks for a moment and says, "If you think that this is right for me then I'll accept. But I want to know where he lives and if I can do my masters after marriage."
Rajesh smiles and replies, "His family lives in the neighbouring town but he lives in Delhi because of his work. Samar promised that the family will let you study after marriage. You will be living in Delhi with Samar's nephew so maybe you can find some better colleges to study in there."
Priyanka brightens up on hearing everything and hugs her uncle. Rajesh hugs her back.
They pull away and Rajesh says, "I'll call Samar and tell him that you have accepted. I have to warn you that they want the marriage to happen soon, so you won't have much time here. If you want to ask anything about the boy, you can tell Samar."
Priyanka shakes her head and replies, "If both you and Samar Kaka think that his nephew is a good man then I don't have any problems."
Priyanka hugs her uncle one last time before going to her room.
~~~~~~~

She sits on her bed thinking about her future. She never thought that she would get married so early but life works in mysterious ways.

She wondered what her future husband would be like.

She went to sleep wondering about her future as a married woman.
