The Shen family holds an embroidered-ball toss to choose matches. Eldest daughter Shen Yunqing throws her ball to Murong An and, years later, is gloriously granted the title of a noble lady; her younger sister Shen Yunqiao hits a beggar instead, flees the marriage, and suffers every hardship. Unable to accept it, Shen Yunqiao kills Yunqing with her own hands on the day Yunqing is granted her title—and the two of them are reborn together, returning to the day of the ball toss three years earlier.
In this life, Shen Yunqiao moves one step ahead, stuffing her ball into Murong An's hands and secretly tampering so that Yunqing's ball falls into the beggar's hands. What she does not know is that this beggar's true identity is the reigning emperor.
Yunqing remembers that after marrying Murong An in her past life, she was used as nothing but a pawn. This life she wants only to live a stable, ordinary life. Ignoring everyone's cold stares, she insists on marrying that beggar. And the emperor, hiding his identity, gradually falls in love with her as they live day and night together……
Afterward, Shen Yunqiao learns the beggar is the emperor and regrets it so bitterly she beats her chest and stamps her feet. Again and again she makes trouble for Yunqing, and in the end she is sent into exile. Shen Yunqing, through setback after setback, ascends step by step to the empress's throne.
